Overview

A study tour to Singapore immerses architecture and design students in the dynamic landscape of its architectural diversity and contemporary design challenges. Modules encompass a range of topics, beginning with an exploration of cultural influences that shape Singaporean architecture, including Malay, Chinese, Indian, and colonial legacies. Sustainable design principles take precedence, with a focus on crafting environmentally conscious solutions tailored to Singapore's urban environment, integrating green spaces and innovative building technologies.

Students delve into traditional shophouse layouts and modern urban planning, engaging in discussions on community integration and sustainable urban living. They scrutinize Singapore's architectural evolution amidst rapid urbanization, assessing its impacts on cultural identity and social cohesion. Practical workshops offer hands-on experiences, such as exploring sustainable building materials and techniques.

Through collaborative projects and community involvement, students gain holistic insights into the social, environmental, and economic dimensions of architectural practice in Singapore. Ultimately, the tour equips students with both practical skills and ethical awareness to navigate diverse cultural contexts and tackle contemporary challenges with responsibility and creativity.
